So I've been settling down (ie. working constantly) nicely since arriving in Austin TX 2 months ago. The wife and I love the city so far, and only regret we haven't gotten out to see more of it. I've had the pleasure of talking to a few companies in town who are doing Flex development, and it's nice to still be part of a little slice of IT heaven after leaving the Bay Area (read Round Rock/Dell/IBM/etc...).

However, I made the mistake of kicking up some dust with the Adobe User Group folks a bit too soon after arriving. One of the top things on my list to do when getting here is to start up a Flex user group for the area. However, I have yet to find the time to actually do this... :-(

So here's the reason for the post... Anybody in the Austin area (that includes Dallas/San Antonio/Houston cause if the CA folks can drive an hour from SF to SJ, the Texas folks can drive 2) that would be interested in attending meetings?

So if you're from Texas, or know someone who is, forward/re-post/shout it out to me, so that I get my ass in gear... I'm not looking for justification (I'll do it eventually) just encouragement to move it up the priority list :-)

I live in Round Rock and work in Dallas so I might be able to attend if the timing works out.

Count me in! I work at a state agency in the network applications division. We're a big CF shop, have just upgraded to CF8, and are starting to do some Intranet apps in Flex/Flash/ColdFusion Flash Remoting. There's about 5-6 other developers who work with me who would probably be interested, also.

I'd be interested in helping you with the group. Give me a shout.

I'm in. Live in South Austin and work at LifeSize Communications building embedded web apps for their systems in Flash and am looking for some encouragement to move to Flex.

I'm in San Antonio, and have (so far) found 'Flex' to be a 4 letter word here. As a new convert to Flex, I'd be thrilled to attend, especially on a weekend. Week nights might be a bit tough -- I get totally nauseous thinking about an I-35 commute after a 10+ hour work day.

We are hosting a flex user group in Dallas. This group is just starting, however we have some special Adobe news coming in Janurary.

Woulld you know of a good souce to find Flex developers in the DFW area for long term local projects? I have a client that is moving to Flex and need 2 people immediately

Yes, things are moving along slowly for the group... getting going after holidays now, and i'd like to have first meeting scheduled for end of Jan, beginning of Feb.

I noticed several posts from San Antonio. We, two San Antonio programmers, are interesred in getting in touch with other developers interested in learning Flex.
We are relatively new to the Flex/Coldfusion environment, but have a number of years of experience developing win32 apps.
San Antonio has a Coldfusion user group that touches on Flex, but the real focus remains on CF. (http://alamocfug.com/)
